Essentials - flashing the wax

This technique is a finishing step so your piece whatever it be must be ready for this stage. Flashing is a great way to create a smooth and shiny finish. When flashing, bare in mind that the wax will be softer than it was in its original form, once cooled down again.

• This final step is to be done once you're happy with your piece. You can either place the wax piece on the cutting matt or you can hold it in your hand. Now, using a lighter, apply heat to the piece and then remove it. If too much heat is applied you could accidentally melt the entire piece so ensure you do this gently and bit by bit. Repeat this process all over the piece until you are happy with it.
